KleanPress.
The French press is one of the most popular brewing devices because of the rich flavor it produces. There are some downsides, however. The cleaning process after brewing a French Press can be time-consuming which is a major drawback for users. In this project, I showcase an innovative solution to this common problem.
Hierarchy of Needs.
A hierarchy of needs table was created to prioritize certain features over others based off research.
Design Criteria.
5 key design parameters were created based off of market and user research.
Concept Development.
Based on the design criteria, a variety of portable coffee brewing concepts were created. Through user feedback, it was found that it was most desirable to drink straight from the brewing device.
Innovative Filtration.
After user feedback, a key insight was found. You cannot let a French press brew sit in the carafe or else it will over-extract. A filter mechanism was designed to block off the coffee grounds when the brew is finished.
Final Concept.
Another important feature of this product is the grounds tray mechanism. This mechanism allows the user to easily trap and throw out coffee grounds without having to put their hand into the messy cup.
